FAQ

  • Q. How do period panties work?
    A. Period panties have added layers and are crafted with highly absorbent materials from front to back to absorb your flow, keeping you stress-free even when you have a heavy flow. Period panties can look like your regular everyday underwear, but the fabric used in them is different. It is made up of moisture-wicking fabric which consists of thousands of tiny fibres. These fibres prevent fluids from staining your clothes.

    Q. How many pairs should I buy?
    A. We suggest trying these panties at home when you are experiencing a heavy period flow. You will then be aware of the longest duration you can wear your underwear and stay dry. We recommend you to use at least 3-4 period panties in rotation. So one period panty for the day, one during the night. And while the other two period panties are drying, save one pair for the next day or an emergency.

    Q. Can I wear period panties all day?
    A. Your cycle is unique, and it largely depends on your period flow. Hence, we advise you to replace your period panties, once you begin to feel wet. This is a sign that it has reached the maximum absorbency level and it's time for you to change. You can also wear them all day when you need more protection while using other period products. At the end, it comes down to personal choice.

    Q. When can one start using tampons?
    A. One can start using Tampons from the onset of their first period. Tampons are completely safe and convenient to use and one can use them without any hesitation.

    Q. What are the advantages of using Tampons?
    A. Majority of Women find tampons more comfortable than sanitary pads as they are hassle free and allow one to move freely. They prevent leakage, are super convenient and one does not have to deal with the foul odour like in the case of a pad as long as you remove it well in time. With tampons you can engage in all physical activities & can wear any underwear without the fear of any potential leakage due to their high absorbency. As an added bonus, you can just slip a couple in your pocket. So, just forget about your concerns and go on your day without any hitch.

    Q. What makes Sanity tampons different?
    A. Sanity tampons come with the promise of giving you stress-free and sanitary period days. They have been made with quality materials that eliminate the risk of irritation and rashes that sanitary products could possibly cause. A Sanity product offers complete comfort and security that facilitates participation in all activities such as swimming and exercises that you may otherwise avoid. Additionally, our travel size tampons provide convenience, hygiene and ease that a menstrual product of your choice should ideally have.

    Q. What are the absorbency levels that Sanity tampons provide?
    A. Sanity tampons offer the standard absorbency levels set by the FDA with our Light, Regular, Super and Super Plus tampons. Light tampons absorb up to 6 grams of menstrual blood, while Regular tampons absorb about 6-9 grams of it. Super tampons are meant for a slightly heavier flow of about 9-12 grams and SuperPlus tampons absorb about 12-15 grams of menstrual blood.

    Q. How frequently do I need to change my tampon?
    A. We recommend to change your tampon every 4 to 6 hours, irrespective of the flow. You should never leave a tampon in for more than 8 hours and should change more often in case of a heavy flow. It is also suggested to refrain from using a super or super plus tampon on days with a light flow.

    Q. How do I determine the suitable size of Sanity tampon for me? How do I compare absorption with the products I currently use?
    A. If you are a newbie to tampons, it is advisable to begin with a Light or a Regular Applicator Tampon. In case there is a need to change more frequently, a Super Tampon could be a better size for you. If you are switching from different sanitary products, like pads, then its absorbance level should help you determine the tampon size ideal for you. The droplet sign printed on every Sanity product packaging indicates the absorbance level of that product. This can make the switch easier for you. For example, if you have been using pads or tampons with 3 droplets, then a Sanity tampon with 3 droplets should be a suitable size for you.

    Q. What is the correct way to use a compact applicator tampon?
    A. It is important to wash your hands thoroughly with soap before using a compact applicator tampon. The Sanity applicator tampon comes inside a plastic applicator that has two tubes, the inner one inside the outer tube. To insert the tampon inside, you need to first pull the applicator to its full size and then pull the inner tube out till its limit. Now, hold the extended applicator between your thumb and middle fingers, and push the tampon inside using your index finger. Make sure you push the inner tube properly into the outer tube until the ends of both tubes meet. This will slide the tampon inside your vagina in the correct way.

    Q. How to take off a used tampon?
    A. Relax and gently pull the withdrawal cord. If the tampon feels that it can be withdrawn easily then remove it. If you feel resistance it is an indication that you may be using a tampon with too high an absorbency for your flow. In any event ensure that you change your tampon at least every 4 to 6 hours.

How To Remove A Used Tampon

    Q. How can I dispose Sanity tampons? Can I flush them?
A.Discarding used tampons, using toilet papers or newspapers, in the dustbin is the correct way to dispose them of. Flushing used tampons or applicators is strongly advised against, for it can cause blockages in your plumbing or septic systems and we recommend against it.

    Q. Do Tampons hurt you?
    A. No they don’t. Tampons are super easy to wear. Get into a comfortable position and insert the tampon properly into your vagina. It’s so easy that you won’t feel it at all, but if the tampon is not inserted in the right way you may experience some discomfort. To ensure proper placement of the tampon please refer to the leaflet or the FAQ’s above.

    Q. Can Tampons fall out?
    A. If inserted properly, tampons don’t usually fall out. They are inserted far enough into the vagina so the vaginal muscles help keep the tampon in place. We suggest you to read the instructions manual carefully before inserting a tampon. Certainly, there are two sides to every coin so if you happen to poop while your tampon’s in and exert the muscles while pooping there is a possibility that your tampon may fall out.

    Q. Can tampons get lost inside me?
    A. A tampon is never really lost. It stays in your vagina once you have inserted it. The only other opening is through your cervix at the top of your vagina, but its way too small to let a tampon pass through it. If in a rare case you face any difficulty removing your tampon then move your fingers in and around your vaginal opening and try to find the tampon or its string, as soon as you feel it, hold it and pull it out and don’t forget to breathe and be calm. Panicking never helped anybody!

    Q. Do Tampons Leak?
    A. Most of us are worried about the leakage and staining our pants especially when you are a teen and have just started menstruating. All you need to keep in mind are a few things that will help you to lead a leak free & stress free period days.
    • Deciding the best absorbency tampon is the key.
    • Changing the tampons on regular intervals is must.
    • Placing the tampon correctly and making sure you don’t feel any discomfort is important for your well being.

    Q. Will using tampons make me lose my virginity?
    A. A lot of girls feel using tampons can cause them to lose their virginity. The fact is, when inserted properly, tampons don’t break the hymen. In a rare case, if using a tampon causes a girl's hymen to stretch or tear, let me assure you that tearing of your hymen ≠ losing your virginity. The hymen can break due to many other reasons too, like cycling, horse-riding, over stretching during exercise etc.

    Q. Can you pee with a tampon in?
    A. In case you were wondering, yes, you can totally pee with a tampon in! Here's a quick anatomy lesson: Blood and urine come out of two different openings! I know, it's wild, but it's true. Blood comes out of your vagina, while urine comes out of your urethra. So, when a tampon is inserted, it isn't interfering with the urine flow at all. Pro Tip: You might want to tuck the string into your vagina or hold it out of the way so you don't get urine on it.

    Q. What is Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS)?
    A. TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) is a complex condition that is caused by bacterial infections. It happens when the normal bacteria in our bodies, staph and strep bacteria, multiply and release a poisonous toxin in our bodies. Although it can have different causes, it can also be caused with the use of tampons, for they can act like a breeding home for bacteria to grow at. Symptoms of TSS may vary depending on the underlying cause. There is no widely accepted evidence that tampons can cause it or that its material composition increases its risk. However, studies have shown that the risk of other infections and TSS may increase with heavier absorbency products. We at Sanity strongly advise you to follow the FDA guidelines of tampon usage and change it every 4 to 6 hours.
